Joy S. Lee
Joy Lee is a violin and viola instructor based in Fairfax, VA. She graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Music in violin performance and a minor in music pedagogy, where she held leadership roles in symphonies, pit orchestras, and chamber groups. As a certified Suzuki instructor, she brings a rich background of study under accomplished teachers, including June Huang and Jenna Potts, to her teaching. Joy’s journey as an educator began in high school and has since blossomed into a commitment to nurturing young musicians.
As a teacher, Joy prepares her students for district and regional auditions and encourages their participation in local ensembles such as TCSYO and AYPO. She also collaborates with local middle and high schools, assisting with orchestra sectionals and substitute teaching. Fluent in Korean and English, and having experienced diverse cultural environments during her childhood, Joy connects with students from various backgrounds and strives to make music accessible and enjoyable for all.
Using the Suzuki method, Joy specializes in working with young beginners, encouraging parental involvement to create a supportive learning environment. She emphasizes making music a daily part of life and fostering a lifelong passion for playing. Joy’s goal is not only to teach strings but also to be a mentor, guide, and friend, helping students find joy and fulfillment in their musical journeys.
